We rushed out to Placerville, CA and picked her up. Little did we know she was going to be a life line when the shelter in place mandates were issued. Two months later, I found myself pastoring in a pandemic. Through incredible creativity with Session and the community, we continue bringing the Word every Sunday. I began Zoom meditation groups, fellowship nights, and youth game nights. My Old Testament Professor, Rev Dr Yolanda Norton, and fellow classmates created this vital and life-giving worship service. Beyoncé Mass is a womanist worship service. Womanism recognizes and celebrates the lives, beauty, culture, spirituality, and experiences of Black women and is committed to the survival, well-being, and wholeness of all people. The worship service uses Beyoncé’s life and music as a tool to engender positive, empowering conversations about Black women.
